Farming throws up different challenges all the time. It’s probably what we love about the work. This year has been very challenging – at times too challenging – as we tended the garlic crop with virtually no irrigation. Loads of mulch and careful weeding kept the crop alive and a few showers before harvest were a god send. We’ve never grown garlic under these conditions before so we’re pretty chuffed the crop came out of the ground strong and healthy. But it was boo hoo all round when we realised the average bulb size this year is under 6cm. These purple hard neck garlics have an amazing habit – small bulbs can still have good clove size. We hope you can enjoy the fresh garlic Big and Small. It’s all delicious.
